Spirit of Rugby is a nationwide project spread across two years and 15 communities inspired by the England 2015 Rugby World Cup and the 2016 adoption of Rugby 7s as an Olympic Sport in Rio. The project aims to empower young people between the ages of 16 and 24 and get them involved in Rugby Union as players, volunteers, coaches, event managers or indeed anything else.

The Spirit of Rugby project is based within 15 communities across the country. The groups will create new and innovative solutions to engage groups who aren’t traditionally interested in rugby and seeks to use the inspiration of both the Rugby World Cup and the 2016 Rio Olympics.

We are already seeing some fantastic results from across the projects. Highlights so far include a regular touch rugby session bringing 50 new players to the game in football-mad Portsmouth leading to a new generation of qualified coaches and referees and Brighton volunteers using the Spirit of Rugby to break down barriers and common misconceptions associated with disability sport
